While the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra will host a conference looking at Genocide Jurisdiction in Australia, later this week. The Conference marks two years since genocide became illegal in this country, and will consider whether Australia is willing and able to prosecute and punish Australian citizens for genocide. Other legal issues up for discussion include whether the denial of Indigenous sovereignty is an act of genocide and what jurisdiction the International Criminal Court has over genocide in Australia. Roy “Dootch” Kennedy is an Ambassador from the Point Sandon Tent Embassy near Woollongong, which suffered a suspected arson attack earlier this week. He explains the importance of holding a genocide conference.
