A new Australian study has found women as young as fifteen are requesting labiaplasty surgery from GPs in Australia, with a threefold increase of women undergoing the procedure over the previous decade. In 2013 more than 1500 surgeries were performed in Australia.

The growing unease that women have with their bodies has been attributed to the increased availability of pornography and censorship laws relating to the female image.

But is the request for labiaplasty merely cosmetic or does it reveal underlying mental health issues in women?
