Access to the internet is something that is so key to Australian society that many of us can’t imagine life without it. In fact the United Nations has declared the internet to be a fundamental human right. But for many people, access to the internet means a new world of online harassment, while for others getting online is still just dream. Issues facing the industry and the online world were discussed at the Australian Internet Governance Forum today in Melbourne, where there was a particular focus on gender issues on the internet and in the ICT sector.
