Young women in Generation Y are feeling the pressure to have sex at an earlier age, and sometimes against their will. That’s according to a new book on the subject, called ‘Sex, Power and Consent: Youth Culture and the Unwritten Rules’. It argues that the rise in raunch culture and sexualised imagery in the media are partly to blame. Author, Anastasia Powell, of La Trobe University, says young women continue to be placed in situations where they experience pressure, or in some cases, assault.
