GE rice contamination reaches Europe
The European Union is considered one of the leaders in GE food regulation, So you can imagine their surprise when GE contaminated rice products imported from China were found on the supermarket shelves in France, Germany and the UK recently. The products contain an illegal protein and scientists are concerned about it’s health risks. Greenpeace Australia’s Genetic Engineering Campaigner John Hepburn says consumer’s should look to Greenpeace’s True Food Guide online to ensure they’re eating GE free. The Australian Rice Grower’s Association Executive Director Victoria Taylor says that Australian rice is GE free and growers could use the latest EU contamination to increase rice exports to Europe.
