Gay and Lesbian lobby groups want the blood donating policies of the Red Cross changed. The current policy, which prevents sexually active gay men from donating blood, was recently labelled “discriminatory” by a Tasmanian Gay Rights Group. Now, a complaint regarding the policy has been submitted to the Anti-Discrimination Tribunal and Human Rights Commission. The Red Cross, along with several national AIDS organizations, has defended its policy. Christopher van Opstal asked Ian Rankin, CEO of the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations, about their support for this new policy.
