A year and a half on from the horrific floodings in Lismore, the town hosted a three-day National Indigenous Disaster Resilience gathering, showcasing Indigenous knowledge, leadership and community-led insight in disaster response and recovery.

Climate disasters like the 2022 floods devastated the lives of thousands of Australians. But, according to researcher and NIDR convener, Euahlayi man, Bhiamie Williamson, First Nations people and communities are too often impacted ‘disproportionately’, showing Indigenous needs and perspectives require further inclusion in Australia’s disaster and climate strategies.
