The future of one of Australia’s best art schools is in jeopardy. The National Art School (NAS) based in Darlinghurst Sydney is currently locked in negotiations with the New South Wales Government over their funding.

The last two months have been tumultuous for Sydney’s art schools, with the proposed merger of the three biggest in Sydney: The Sydney College of the Arts, NAS and University of New South Wales Art and Design.

Whilst the Sydney College of the Arts has now pulled out of the merger, the NAS is at the whim of the State Government due to their lease and funding arrangements. Students, staff and alumni of the NAS are planning to march on Parliament House, calling for recognition of the schools special place in Sydney’s Art History.
