Did you know, that for every $1 spent on HIV prevention, it saves the NSW Government $13? Life time treatment costs for a person living with HIV is half a million dollars. With Queensland Premier Campbell Newman trying to trim the fat, Health Minister Lawrence Springborg has cut the funding of the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities despite acknowledging in a statement that the rate of HIV infection has doubled in the last ten years. The funding has been redirected to a Ministerial Advisory Committee. The Queensland Association of Healthy Communities is a state-wide agency delivering HIV prevention services and promoting the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Queenslanders and has done for the last 28 years.
