In recent years, the issue of mental health has been somewhat ignored. Although the situation has vastly improved in the last 3 decades, Government health funding has still been minimal. Professor Ian Hickie, a clinical adviser to beyondblue, says the Government needs to do more. Garry McDonald, best known for his role in “Mother and Son”, personally experienced living with anxiety and depression. Ten years on, McDonald is a board member of beyondblue, the national depressive initiative, and was a key speaker at a mental health conference in Adelaide today. He spoke to Catherine Graue about his own experiences with anxiety.
