From Slavery to Star Trek: one woman’s oral storytelling mission
From runaway slave ancestors to working on Star Trek, the stories of 73-year-old Andreea Kindryd reveal the fascinating life of an African American who eventually finds herself teaching conflict resolution in Australia. On the way she meets Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Junior as a university student during the civil rights movements in the United States.
It’s a story she tells in her show From Slavery to Star Trek as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival. A latecomer to the stage, she started performing stand up five years ago before taking up oral storytelling, eventually taking her show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year. And she hasn’t let brain surgery in the last month stop her from going on with the show.
