Outsider Benoit Hamon has won the the primaries for the “Socialist” centre left party in France.

He faced Incumbent Prime Minister Manuel Valls, but won with almost 60 per cent of the vote.

Hamon’s victory came as another surprise for the political establishment.

After five years of President Francois Hollande’s term, the Socialists are divided and they trail their rivals in the polls.
