A national push for stronger shield laws for journalists has hit a snag in Western Australia. Proposed federal shield laws, which protect journalists and public sector whistleblowers from prosecution over public interest matters, have so far failed to convince the Barnett government. But media groups and the Greens say reform is desperately needed nationwide, and that the Western Australian media and public shouldn’t be left behind.
