A report released this week by the Commonwealth Ombudsman reveals that government agencies are failing to fulfill their duties under the Freedom of Information Act. The Act is supposed allow citizens and the press to access goverment-related documents, but it has been found that there are often excessive delays in the processing of requests and problems involved with notification and fees. The Executive Secretary of the Australian Press Council, Jack Herman, spoke to Sophie Gyles about the problems plaguing national Freedom of Information laws.
