Graduates and young workers taken into fields such as law, health, hospitality and hairdressing are being told by employers that they have to work for free to get experience.

Horror stories are emerging of employers taking advantage of the large number of young unemployed university graduates who need experience for their CV. These stories have sparked an investigation by the fair work ombudsman. A number of law experts at the University of Adelaide are now investigating unpaid working arrangements, including internships, work experience and hiring for trial periods.
