The NT Government has expressed concerns for the welfare of local indigenous artists after the issue of fraudelent artwork in souvenir stores surfaced once again. A Senate Inquiry into the problem begins today and will continue until the end of Friday. Local storeowner Stacey, of Indigenous Creations, is at her wit’s end trying to get some justice for authentic art dealers against cheap imitations from Indonesia. President of the Indigenous Art Trade Association Ian Plunkett says good measures are in place to monitor the authenticity of artwork, but he would be lying if he said illegal sales were not slipping under the radar.
