Photojournalist Nancy McGirr really started something in 1991 when instead of photographing Guatemalan slum children she gave them cameras and got them to take the pictures. The result is Fotokids, a group of child photographers now 150 strong who have exhibitions, produce books and many of whom are now beginning their own careers. Evelyn Mansella is studying journalism and says it’s a future she would never have had if the camera hadn’t changed her life.
