Stranger things do happen but the appointment of the former executive director of the Australian Conservation Foundation to head up the Victorian Association of Forest Industries has surprised many, from green groups to unions and the industry itself. Tricia Caswell spoke with Jeanti St Clair today about the sector’s response and whether her desire to bring conservationists and the forestry industry to the negotiation table could end up putting her between a rock and a hard place. Ms Caswell is currently Executive Director of RMIT’s Global Sustainability Institute and will take up her position as head of the Victorian Association of Forest Industries in June this year.
