When the National Rugby League appears in the headlines these days, the stories seem to be all about disgraced players. But the NRL, along with other Australian football codes continue to play a constructive role in many areas, including offering support for reconciliation between black and white Australians. The league has just launched its national “Reconciliation Action Plan” designed to help indigenous kids get involved in the game and even plan sporting careers. And in Sydney today, a seminar highlighted how football has helped to develop and maintain healthy communities, while AFL has been a key tool for reconciliation in Australia.
