In The Times yesterday a number of prominent British comedians published an open letter condemning the treatment of Baha’i prisoners in Iran. Baha’i is a faith born in Iran which has been banned since the 1979 Iranian revolution. According to its supporters, Baha’i’s in Iran are denied jobs, education and housing and have often been arrested without reason. In March and May last year seven Baha’i community leaders in Iran were imprisoned and they were only charged a few months ago. The seven face charges such as spying for Israel and insulting Islam. If they are found guilty they face a maximum penalty of death.
