The global flower industry is worth more than 50-billion dollars, and surprisingly has a very big carbon footprint.

A large portion of flowers are imported from overseas, which means they have to be flown in on planes – hugely increasing their greenhouse gas emissions.

Nikki Davey is a flower farmer and the Founder of startup business ‘Grown Not Flown’ which connects local flower farmers with consumers nearby via a free online website and app.

She wants to reduce the carbon footprint of the flower industry and help local and often smaller scale growers connect with consumers.
