Flotilla of Hope: Ship Sets Sail for Nauru
Over 200 people gathered to farewell the crew of five, who are travelling to NAURU to protest against the Australian detention centre on the island. The crew plan to visit the 300 asylum seekers detained on Nauru since 2001. The group will be taking them toys, clothes, recreational and educational items, and should arrive at the tiny Pacific nation on June 20 – World Refugee Day. But the crew has already been warned that it won’t be allowed to dock in Nauru and that those aboard could be arrested. Elissar Mukhtar was there for The Wire.
