Floods not unusual but ‘reason to fear’ climate shift may contribute

It’s been a very wet summer and some people have been looking to the skies and wondering if the deluge is normal. So is this the kind of weather we got in the past, or is it a new and scarier climate that we’re facing? One climate scientist says that the deluge is not unusual for a La Niña period in Australia. However he also says that the rains have been particularly severe this year and last, and while there’s still no hard evidence, there is reason to fear that climate change could be making La Niña events more severe.
