The International Fleet Review is taking place across Sydney this week with crowds celebrating big ships on the harbour. But experts say there has been a distinct lack of public discourse about Australia’s defence spending and strategies and even a glorification of war. They say there is an interesting dichotomy between leaders forging international relationships at the APEC forum in Indonesia, and celebrating our naval capabilities back home, which could be used in a conflict against those same regional neighbours.
