The UK went to the polls last Thursday but the result is yet to be decided as voters have delivered a hung parliament. This has enlivened debate about which electoral system is more suitable. First past the post is the present one and it has failed to deliver on its main objective: A stable single party government. The alternative is proportional representation which delivers parliamentary seats in proportion to votes gained but does not necessarily produce a clear winner.
