Shortly after the election, the new government initiated plans to deregulate the financial sector. Among various proposals, the Labor government’s consumer safeguards against unscrupulous financial advisers were to be axed. But splits have emerged both within the industry as well as the community, and the proposals are again under review. Nick Whigham has spoken to a couple of industry experts to get their take on the changes.
