A draft decree introduced by Fiji’s military regime could slash workers’ wages and make union representation near- impossible. Over the past week, officials from the Fijian union movement have been touring Australia and New Zealand to rally support for their cause. In response, Australia’s Transport Workers Union is threatening to take industrial action against Qantas, joint owner of the Fijian Air Pacific, and its subsidiary Jetstar. TWU National Secretary Tony Sheldon says Qantas should be protecting its Fijian workforce.
