Fijian trade unionists jailed again

Last week two leaders from the Fiji Trades Union Congress were arrested. It’s not the first time they’ve been locked up, and the Fijian regime has already cracked down on workers organisations several times this year. Australian unions are now calling on companies operating out of Fiji – like Qantas, Westpac and ANZ – to publicly condemn the military government for the arrests.
They say if companies don’t start speaking up for workers’ rights, they’ll unleash a public campaign against them. The first step will be urging Australians not to travel to the island paradise.
