A raid on a Fiji Women’s rights group has drawn attention to the plight of human rights advocacy groups under Fiji’s military regime. The Fijian women’s rights movement was celebrating 25th anniversary with a planning retreat at a resort in Pacific Harbour, when Fijian Police arrived, shut down the meeting and took 2 staff for questioning. The government has since acknowledged the gathering didn’t break anyrules, but police actions have some groups worried about being unfairly targeted. Interview with Dr Brij Lal from the ANU’s College of Asia and the Pacific.
