Domestic supporters of the military government in Fiji believe the 2006 coup was an effort to resolve ethnic tensions. The realities of military rule indicate otherwise, and Fiji’s suspension from the Pacific Islands Forum is set to continue. ANU held a forum of its own today, discussing the political and economic options of this troubled Island nation. Jon Fraenkal from ANU spoke with Nick Hollins about the nature of Fiji’s ethnic tensions, and how the latest military coup related to these issues.
