The death toll from Cyclone Winston in Fiji has hit 29 after the deadly storm flattened whole villages. It’s hard to know what the final death toll and number of injured will be, with authorities still struggling to contact some remote islands. More than 8,000 people have taken refuge in evacuation centres and there are concerns that without access to safe water, disease could spread quickly. The Wire received an update on the crisis from The Red Cross’ Steve Ray. If you would like to donate to The Red Cross, you can call 1800 811 700 or visit http://www.redcross.org.au/.
