In the capital of Suva movements by the army seem to suggest that at the least preparations for a take over or coup are underway. However, the Prime Minister is refusing the resign and at the time of going to air there had been no reports of violence As we go to air the man doing all the talking, Fijian Army Chief Commodore Frank Bainimarama, is holding a press conference to announce his intentions for the next few days. But already today the army has moved into strategic positions round the capital and the only armed unit of the police force was disarmed.
