According to Professor Naomi Oreskes, doubt surrounding climate change has little to do with science and everything to do with ideology. Professor Oreskes is currently touring Australia to promote her new book, “Merchants of Doubt.” She argues that uncertainty about global warming is driven by a powerful group of individuals with an agenda to delay action. She says strategies to discredit climate change science are disturbingly similar to the way tobacco companies used scientists throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s to defend their industry.
