Female fans hold surprising attitudes on AFL sex misconduct

More rumours of player misconduct surfaced today to cloud what is supposed to be AFL’s night of celebration, the awarding of the brownlow medal. Continuing problems with player conduct have sparked research into football clubs and culture. The research is uncovering some surprising attitudes among female footy fans to the problem of sexual misconduct in the AFL. Researchers have interviewed 80 female footy fans. Many expressed the opinion that sexual misconduct couldn’t happen at their club, and some even tended to shift the blame onto the victims of sexual assault.
