Federal Court recognises Wik and Wik Way land rights

Ten years after their original claim, a consent determination has recognised the native title rights of the Wik and Wik Way people over 12,000 square kilometres of land and water in far north Queensland. Justice Richard Cooper formally recognised their rights at a special sitting of the Federal Court, in Arukun. Following a Federal Court determination four years ago, the Wik and Wik Way people now have native title rights over more than 18,000 square kilometres of land.
