Feathers are flying after the Federal Environment Minister Ian Campbell last week knocked back an application to build a windfarm at Bald Hills in East Gippsland, Victoria, due to the impact it might have on the endangered orange-bellied parrott. What appears to be a compassionate move by the Minister has been branded by the Victorian Government as a political stunt. Meanwhile, environmental groups around the country are hoping the decision sets a precedent which they can use in the future to block other commercial developments from getting off the ground. Marcus Godinho from Environment Victoria spoke to Sophie Gyles about the Environment Minister’s surprise veto.
