Faux election campaign off to shaky start
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has confirmed he will pull the double dissolution trigger after the Senate voted against the Australian Building Construction Commission bill. The Prime Minister says this will allow voters to decide on the bill at the upcoming election. While no date has been formally announced, Turnbull says the election is likely to be on July 2. This means the campaign season has effectively commenced, but the government is already off to a shaky start, after a script for a post-budget, tax-payer funded ad campaign was leaked to Sky News. It has revealed the governmnet is planning $16 billion dollars of budget savings from superannuation and multi national tax avoidance. But it also revealed internal tensions in the Coalition remain high.
