Plans to expand the Acland coal mine in the Darling Downs, west of Brisbane is one step closer today. The release of a draft Environmental Authority for the New Hope Group outlines stage three of the mine could be underway by as soon as 2017, securing 435 jobs in the future. However, it seems mining is being prioritised over agriculture, with neighbouring farmers set to feel the full force of the encroaching mine.
