Family Violence strategy launched on Cape York
In Weipa on Cape York today, the heads of Regional Aboriginal Councils have made personal and public pledges, taking a stand against family violence. They’ve also signed on to a Shared responsibility agreement with the state government – and celebrated with music from Native Ryme Syndicate and Dancers representing the Wik people, Injinno Community, Mer Island and the Kaurareg. Peninsula Regional Council Chair Eddie Woodley told 4 K1G’s Valma Garra the Council members stand united on the Family Violence position statement launch – and welcome the government’s involvement through the Shared Responsibility Agreement. The Manager of ATSIC’s Cape York Whole of Government unit was also there, committing all tiers of government to the Shared Responsibility Agreement. Richard Aspinall also spoke to Valma Garra on 4K1G, from the launch.
