They may not have been vigilanties wielding flaming torches – but neighbours holding placards and chanting have been successful in driving a previously convicted paedophile out of town today. The south-west Queensland town of Miles hit the headlines after locals protested over the permanent stay in proceedings against a well known child sex offender. The judge had found the crowns case too weak to proceed and had found publicity surrounding the accused previous convictions too great to ensure a fair trial could be held with an impartial jury.
