Every day hundreds and thousands of products branded as fair trade hit our stores. Fair trading certification makes sure we, as the consumer are drinking a cup of coffee or tea or eating a piece of chocolate which has been through a fair process. So, its easy to see why consumers would think they are doing the right thing.

Fair trade can be a  process which seeks to alleviate exploitation of farmers and recognise their hard work through monetary contribution. However, as this phenomena becomes more and more popular, questions about its legitimacy have been raised, such as the intent behind businesses using fair trade as well as if it’s actually helping.
