Communities around the country have rejected unconventional gas, fearing water and land contamination, earth tremors, and social consequences. At a conference in Sydney today, international experts said that while some risks exist, with the right regulations and planning, they could be avoided. For the experts, the real failure for unconventional gas, is the lack of proper discussions with communities, to sell them the science that goes on below the ground.
