A Canberra conference is examining how to strengthening protection for victims of armed conflict around the world, in the face of increasingly fragmented armed groups, using often using home-made devices to create maximum damage. Sexual violence is another tool of war under the spotlight and it’s not only women and girls who are subject to it – men too are often sexually abused as a form of torture in incarceration. It’s a particular focus for Australian woman Dr Helen Durham, the International Red Cross’s Director of International Law and Policy.
