Australian house prices weathered the GFC quite well and are now predicted to rise, making the dream of owning their own home ever more distant for many Australians. Germany and the Netherlands have successful social housing policies which experts say Australia could adopt to make housing more affordable.

The social housing policies adopted after the war in those countries have continued, meaning people on low incomes can live in a place they can call their own.
