The creation of ethics classes in NSW schools is under threat after the Opposition Leader Barry O’Farrell said he would oppose the idea if elected next year. Supporters argue that the study of ethics will compliment religious classes but opponents fear that religion is being undermined. Barry O’Farrell is expected to lead the Liberal Party to victory in March next year, and critics say his declaration could influence the current independent review of ethics classes. Dr Simon Longstaff from the St James Ethics Centre helped formulate the ethics curriculum — and he spoke with Nic Christensen.
