The Natural Resources Commission is calling on the NSW government to allow logging in protected areas, as native trees grow out of control. The draft report recommends that dense areas of white cypress pine be ecologically thinned to protect native plants and animals.

As a bonus, commercial benefits will provide opportunities for local communities and industries. But environmentalists have slammed the move, which they say lacks environmental integrity and economic sense. They say that the best approach would be using controlled fire, as Indigenous communities have done in the past.
