Enquiry underway on immigration health checks

A parliamentary committee is in the midst of an enquiry into Australia’s immigration policy. The Australian Government currently requires all refugees and immigrants to undergo a health assessment before coming into the country. The potential health costs of each person is assessed and if someone has a disability or health condition that will cost taxpayers at least $20 000 over a lifetime, they are blocked from entering Australia.
