With threats of global oil shortages and climate change hot on our heels, the government is under pressure to reduce our use of fuel to help lower green hosue emissions. Despite years of having the technology to create fuel efficient cars, there are still few on Australian roads. The Democrats are urging the government to strongly encourage car manufacturers to produce smaller, fuel efficient cars. But can we strike that magic balance between the environment and the economy? Senator Lyn Allison, leader of the Australian Democrats and Jack Haley, Vehicle and Policy Specialist from the NRMA, spoke to The Wire.
