A bill called the Electoral and Referendum Amendment (Electoral Integrity and Other Measures Bill) is set to be passed this week. It will decrease the amount of days that electoral rolls stay open to allow new voters or those who have moved to be registered to vote. The bill will also see more people disallowed the right to vote all together, if they are currently serving time in prison. Currently if you give $1500 or more to a political party, you have to tell the Australian electoral commission – once this bill is passed, you’ll be able to give your political party of chose $10,000 and not tell a soul. Democrats Senator Andrew Murray described the bill as an assault on electoral integrity and representative democracy.
