One week into the Federal election campaign, truth and credibility have emerged as key issues, with the children overboard affair proving a constant black mark against the Government. The Government has been able to claw back some ground, by producing phone records which placed doubt on claims being made by former ministerial staffer Mike Scrafton, about the length and number of phone calls he had with the Prime Minister, when he allegedly had told Howard that the children overboard allegations were false. But according to Geoffrey Hawker, Political analyst and Deputy Head of the Politics Department at Macquarie University, there are signs that the affair has put a dent in the Government’s integrity. Erica Vowles also spoke to Democrats Senator Andrew Bartlett and Greens Senator Bob Brown.
